A Space to Slow Down and Make Sense of Your Experience

I’m Mitsue Karaman, a licensed psychotherapist offering therapy for professionals, individuals, and couples in California and New Hampshire. I provide online sessions in English and Japanese.

I offer a space where you can slow down, take a breath, and begin to make sense of your experiences in a way that feels more grounded and clear.

My Perspective

I’ve long been drawn to how people make sense of their experiences, particularly across different cultures, identities, and relationships. This curiosity has guided how I navigate the world and ultimately led me to becoming a therapist.

My work is shaped by my multicultural upbringing as a third culture kid, Japanese heritage, and my experience as an immigrant Asian American. Living between cultures has given me a deep awareness of how identity and belonging are shaped over time, often in complex and subtle ways.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked for over two decades in global corporate and tech startup environments. This experience informs my understanding of the pressures professionals carry—balancing expectations, performance, and responsibility, while navigating multiple cultural and relational contexts.

Together with my clinical training, this allows me to work with both the internal and external complexities my clients navigate. I attend not only to what is spoken, but also to what may be harder to name, especially when shaped by cultural expectations, professional demands, or long-held roles.

My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, combining talk therapy with somatic and experiential practices. Our work is collaborative and paced with care. At times, we may slow down to notice what is happening beneath the surface so that insight can be both understood and felt.

I am especially drawn to working with multicultural and immigrant individuals, BIPOC professionals, and cross-cultural couples navigating identity, relationships, and life transitions.

I also value supporting the next generation of therapists, and offer a number of reduced-fee spaces for graduate students in counseling and related fields.

I look forward to connecting with you.
